A lion in Lahore, Pakistan, allegedly escaped from a private home and attacked a mother and her two young children. The children were hospitalised. The lion was reportedly kept illegally – no licence, no proper cage – just a concrete wall. Yet under current Pakistani law, people can legally own lions, tigers, and cheetahs by paying a one-time fee. Many do so to flaunt wealth on social media.
These animals are not pets. They’re wild, powerful, and dangerous. And this time, it almost cost a family their lives.
Since the attack, officials have seized 18 more lions and raided 40 breeding farms. But we need more than reactionary crackdowns. It’s time to ban all private ownership of big cats and shut down this cruel industry for good.
