People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is well known for its memorable and often shocking campaigns. Their latest publicity effort? PETA.xxx, an attention-grabbing site featuring animal rights messages mixed with adult content.
The site has enough adult content to qualify for the .xxx domain, but nudity isn’t the only surprise readers can expect. Adult film legend Ron Jeremy was quoted: “[T]his is the perfect example of sex just being used to draw interest, and then once you’re there on the site, we’re going to hit you with facts that you need to know about the world of animals.”
Sex sells, and is certainly attention-grabbing, but is it the best way to spread the word about animal rights issues and promote veganism? Do campaigns like this one garner much-deserved attention or trivialize animal rights?

Just further proof that PETA is in it for profit and publicity, not for protecting animals.
It’s a good way to draw attention to PETA, but is this really how to draw attention to the cause? Is this a way to help animals? It seems more like a ploy to get media attention than to encourage people to lift a finger to help animals.
Is PETA trying to change people’s thinking about animals, or trying to be controversial? The biggest knock on PETA pre-porn was the conception that they put animals above people. Now they get further into a field that is already construed by many as degrading to women, probably even by those who view it. They have certainly lost their way, and wasted supporter money.
