Unfortunately, the world is not a very peaceful or safe place for many individuals. From conflict to abuse to exploitation, there is so much cruelty inflicted on both humans and animals. While this can get disheartening and difficult to hear, petitions are a great way to use your voice for good. Just by signing one, you are a part of helping those who are not treated fairly. You can even share them with friends and acquaintances to increase your impact.

Through petitions, we can reach those in power and demand justice for others. They are valuable tools for making positive changes in the world. If you are looking for a way to help animals and humans, here are five petitions you should sign this week, including Help Shut Down Miami Seaquarium, Help Remove Microplastics from Our Water, and Tell Congress to Enshrine Abortion Rights in the Constitution.

We want to thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.

1. Help Hold Corporations Responsible for Poisoning Americans with Forever Chemicals

DuPont and its spinoff company Chemours are facing intense scrutiny for knowingly poisoning both the American people and the whole world with toxic “forever chemicals,” including at a PFAS manufacturing plant in North Carolina, where neighboring communities spent years struggling to fight back.

Now, thankfully, the U.N. is getting involved, since the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been overly lax with DuPont and enforcing proper regulations.

Nine independent advisors for a U.N. human rights panel have concluded that “even as DuPont and Chemours had information about the toxic impacts of PFAS on human health and drinking water, the companies continued to produce and discharge PFAS… contributing to a global toxic contamination problem.”

Please sign this petition to demand that the U.N. Assembly take action against these corporations to enforce corporate accountability and international health!

2. Help Shut Down Miami Seaquarium

Veterinary staff at Miami Seaquarium are quitting in droves. And it’s clear why: animals have been sick and dying, leading to federal citations and probes.

Animal abuse at the facility is rampant. Recent examples include a broken bolt lodging itself in a captive dolphin’s mouth, another dolphin found with a nail stuck inside its throat, and black mold growing inside animals’ enclosures. Even visitors to the site are turning away feeling “more sad than anything” due to the visible signs of neglect and mistreatment, leading the website Tripadvisor to refuse to sell tickets for the Seaquarium.

All of this caused three veterinary technicians to resign recently, culminating in a fourth major resignation – this time from the site’s only head veterinarian.

Please sign this petition to demand that federal officials immediately close down this abusive, neglectful park now!

3. Help Remove Microplastics from Our Water

By now, you’ve probably heard about the insidious things that are microplastics — microscopic shards of plastic that have been found in human breast milk, on the tops of remote mountains, and in the depths of oceans thousands of miles from human settlements. It’s estimated that the average person ingests a credit card’s worth of microplastics every week in their food and water — and some scientists say that figure could be wildly underestimated.

Please sign this petition if you want to see authorities act NOW on the promising research about removing microplastics from our water!

4. Demand Argentina Take Femicide More Seriously

Femicide is the intentional, targeted murder of women precisely because they are women, generally committed by men. And it has risen 33% in Argentina from 2022 to 2023. Last year, 322 femicides that we know about occurred in Argentina. But right-wing officials who have taken charge in the country genuinely don’t seem to care.

Argentina’s new president Javier Milei took this opportunity to close down the Ministry of Women and Gender, while also proposing new ‘regressive’ laws.

Please sign this petition to demand the Argentinian government reopen the Ministry of Women and Gender now and take femicide more seriously!

5. Tell Congress to Enshrine Abortion Rights in the US Constitution

On March 4, 2024, scenes across France were described as euphoric — out on the streets, in the halls of Parliament, all over, people were celebrating. That day marked France’s move to become the first country in history to enshrine the right to abortion in its constitution.

Please sign this petition if you want to see Congress enshrine abortion rights in the US Constitution!
