There are over 70 million homeless dogs and cats in the United States. While this figure may be difficult to believe, it is a sad reality. Some of these animals were born on the streets and others were callously abandoned by their former guardians, left to fend for themselves. The circumstances surrounding how these animals came to be on the street may differ but they all share the common need of shelter, food and water, and proper medical care. Sadly, these three things are incredibly hard to come by and when you add on the added stress of having to navigate the world filled with cars and people who might want to harm them, homeless animals have quite the tough break.
Thankfully, organizations like Hope For Paws exist to give these animals a chance at the loving homes they deserve. In this video, we see the Hope for Paws rescue team come to the aid of a new mama dog who was living in the parking lot of a garden nursery. When rescuers found the mom, named Petunia, they knew the puppies couldn’t be far away but seeing as mother dogs typically hide their pups while out looking for food, trying to locate a newborn could be extremely difficult.
Luckily, the team was able to win Petunia’s trust and coax her into leading them to the location where her pups were hidden. After an hour of surveying the area, they found one little one, which they named Petals, and soon were on their way back to the rescue center to give them both a bath and a warm place to nest.
The world can be a difficult place for a mama dog and newborn to navigate, but thanks to Hope for Paws, they have a chance a good life in a loving home! To learn more about how you can adopt Petunia and Petals, click here.
