You might think that cats and squirrels are mortal enemies. After all, anyone who has watched cartoons knows that cats hate rodents … right? Well, it appears that real-life cats and rodents do not always share this animosity.
When animal rescue workers introduced an orphaned squirrel to a mother cat and her family of kittens, the cats’ reaction was hardly something you’d expect. Instead of hissing at the squirrel or acting out aggressively, the mother cat takes the baby squirrel in as one of her own!
The little fur family seems to not only accept the squirrel’s presence, but they also don’t seem to notice that he is any different than they are. When it comes to caring for a fur-baby in need, species simply does not matter.
Thanks to the care of his adoptive mother, this little squirrel will grow up nice and strong. We can only hope that he will be able to return to the wild soon!
NOTE: As an important note, do not try to help wildlife of any sort unless you are trained. Find a local wildlife rehabber/rescuer or veterinarian ASAP, or call a rescue hotline. Here are some that might help!
