One of the best things about animals is that they never let anything keep them down. They mourn and suffer just like humans, but they always bounce back even in the face of wanton cruelty or habitual neglect. Shakes the kitten is a glowing example of animal resilience and fortitude.
Shakes is an eight-week-old cat who was born with a rare neurological condition called Feline Cerebellar Hypoplasia. The condition causes uncontrollable tremors that wreak havoc on her fine motor skills and general coordination. Even though Shakes isn’t as graceful as other cats, she doesn’t let it stop her from doing anything. In the video, you can see her jumping walls, hunting bugs, and interacting with other feline friends just as any other “normal” adolescent cat would.
Despite her debilitating condition Shakes is happy, healthy, social, and active. The sad reality is that she’d be put down offhand in most shelters for being “unadoptable” due to her illness, but World for All:Save the Helpless Animals of Mumbai refused to accept that fate for this little bundle of joy.
