Pogo the kitten was just fourteen weeks old when she was brought into Stuebner Airline Champions Veterinary Hospital in Spring, Texas. Kind Samaritans brought her in after they found her outside laying still with elastic hair ties wrapped tightly around three of her paws. It is estimated she was left in this condition for between three and five weeks. The poor kitten’s injuries were so serious that veterinarians had to amputate all three paws at the knee or elbow.

On their Facebook page, doctors at the hospital said they worry that whoever could do something so horrific to a kitten could do the same or worse to a child; and their concerns are very valid. Animal abusers are often linked to other violent crimes including child abuse and domestic violence. It is estimated that an animal abuser is five times more likely to commit a violent crime against a human.

The culprit(s) behind the abuse of Pogo has not been identified. Anyone who has any information regarding the case is strongly encouraged to contact the police.

petition on Care2 addressed to the Harris County Sheriff’s Department is asking officials to pursue justice for Pogo by investigating the case and prosecuting who is responsible to the full extent of the law.

If you are shocked and saddened that someone could hurt an innocent kitten in such a gruesome manner, please take a moment to sign the petition.  Please share this with your network to help gain more Support for the cause and spread awareness of Pogo’s story.

  1. “The only difference between a dog, cat, horse and dolphin and a cow, chicken, pig and turkey is perception. One is no more valuable than another. And yet in this culture, we hold the former animals in high esteem and the latter we brutalize for food. All animals are deserving of respect and freedom from violence. The way to respect others is veganism.”
