The Earthshot Prize, established by Prince William in 2020, draws inspiration from President Kennedy’s Moonshot speech. This global environmental prize seeks to uncover and scale the world’s most promising solutions to combat Climate change and protect the planet. The 2022 Earthshot Prize ceremony, held in Boston, highlighted the city’s status as a leader in innovation and environmental action. The Earthshot Innovation Challenge: Northeast U.S. Edition leverages this momentum to encourage local innovations.

In 2024, three winners will be awarded up to $100,000 each to accelerate their projects. The awards ceremony will take place on September 12, 2024, at the JFK Presidential Library, commemorating the anniversary of President Kennedy’s historic Moonshot speech.

Tatiana Schlossberg, a member of the JFK Library Foundation Board of Directors and President Kennedy’s granddaughter, emphasized the importance of addressing Climate change in a way that promotes justice and equality. She expressed pride in her grandfather’s legacy and its influence on initiatives like The Earthshot Prize.

Funding for the Earthshot Innovation Challenge is supported by The JFK Library Foundation, The ‘Quin Impact Fund, and The Earthshot Legacy Partners. Key supporters include Sandy and Paul Edgerley, Giving | Grousbeck Fazzalari, and Karen and Rob Hale. The partnership continues to build on the success of the 2022 Earthshot Prize ceremony in Boston.

Hannah Jones, CEO of The Earthshot Prize, highlighted the initiative’s goal to reduce CO2 emissions by over 40% and protect 30% of nature, oceans, and freshwater by 2030. The Earthshot Innovation Challenge is a vital step towards achieving these ambitious targets.
