Biden Boosts Solar Energy and Launches American Climate Corps on Earth Day

In a significant Earth Day celebration, President Joe Biden announced a new infusion of solar energy funding and the establishment of the American Climate Corps. Speaking from Triangle, Virginia, Biden unveiled a $7 billion grant allocation under the Inflation Reduction Act dedicated to enhancing solar power initiatives across the United States. This funding is poised to Support nearly one million households in economically disadvantaged areas, promising them substantial savings on electricity costs—over $350 million annually.

Alongside the financial boost for solar energy, Biden introduced the American Climate Corps. This new initiative aims to train and employ young Americans in various roles focused on combating Climate change and enhancing sustainability. The program offers a pathway for young people to engage in significant environmental projects, such as solar panel installation, wildfire management, wetland restoration, and home weatherization. Additionally, Biden highlighted a partnership with TradesFutures, allowing Climate Corps members access to apprenticeship programs in the building trades.

This announcement was made against the backdrop of previous Conservation efforts by the Biden administration, including the prohibition of oil drilling on substantial portions of Alaska’s national petroleum reserve.
