A tiny dachshund’s human had no idea how clever and agile their pup was until they set up a hidden camera. The resulting video showed the dachshund’s amazing skills at escaping from their playpen. Even though they are a small dog, they were able to climb to the top of the crate and lift themselves onto the couch. It all happened because of upper body strength and non-stop kicking with their back legs.

The funny escape video accumulated over 3.1 million views and 118,400 likes on TikTok. It had users both cracking up and amazed by the dog’s determination and initiative. There were tons of comments with users expressing how they’ve personally related to the video and knowledge about dachshunds in general.

“There’s no breed more determined than a dachshund,” said one user. “No wonder I’m not surprised that a dachshund broke out. They’re always getting into trouble for a reason,” said another. As for related stories, a different dachshund owner said their dog “pushed over a trash can that was probably 3 times its size. I guess they’re a lot stronger than they look. So clever.”

The dachshund’s human @emzsunny was “so shocked to see him climb the pen and get to the couch.” Before the camera was set up, she thought the dog was faking not being able to walk upstairs and would often carry the pup up. Now that she’s seen the video, she’s realized “I’ve got a cunning dog.” It was also a reminder that dachshunds aren’t to be underestimated just because they’re so small.

They were originally bred to hunt badgers and developed a fearless and determined attitude. Dachshunds are known for their strong will and sometimes stubbornness which can make them hard to train. But on the other hand, it makes them very intelligent and hard-working. Overall, the dog’s human is now much more aware of her dog’s talents.
