Our love for cheese has been a lifelong affair. We don’t think we’re wrong when we say that for many of us, Kraft Macaroni and Cheese was one of our staple foods. We reveled in mac and cheese dinners and in college, a carton of Kraft Easy Mac was stashed under our dorm room bed – or at least, we might have known someone like that….When you’re cutting back on dairy, the iconic

When you’re cutting back on dairy, the iconic cblue box of noodles and powdered neon orange cheese sauce may be out of the picture, but it certainly doesn’t mean that mac and cheese is off the table. Companies like Annie’s, Daiya, and others make the same kind of product, only without the dairy. If you’re interested in homemade recipes, there are over one hundred different ways to make a plant-based mac and cheese from classic roux-based sauces, sauces made from nuts, or cheese sauces made just from vegetables. But in the busy day-to-day of life, sometimes we just don’t have the energy to whip up a batch of dairy-free homemade cheesy sauce or even a box of vegan mac and cheese. Thankfully, Upton’s Naturals and Field Roast Grain Meat Co. just released ready-made dairy-free mac and cheese!

Upton’s Natural’s new Ch’eesy Mac and Ch’eesy Bacon Mac with crispy seitan bacon both feature a nutritional yeast-based sauce. Both varieties can be made in just one minute — perfect for those busy/lazy days.

After debuting at Natural Products Expo East late last year, Field Roast’s frozen Creamy Mac ‘n Chao and Chili Mac ‘n Chao are hitting the market — finally! Both feature cheese sauces made from Field Roast’s popular Chao cheese slices, which are made from fermented soybean curd.

Hungry? So are we. Keep an eye out for Field Roast’s Mac ‘n Chao in the frozen aisle of your local grocery store and look for Upton’s rendition of the cheesy classic in the same aisle as boxed mac and cheese – if you find it, please mail it to us. It’s amazing that we’re living at a time where four new vegan macaroni and cheese products are hitting the market at the same time. With more people than ever cutting back on dairy, it’s just further proof that the future of food is here — and it’s plant-based.
