The Bald Eagle is an American icon; it can be found on crests, minted on American currency, and of course, on countless novelty t-shirts. But, one place where it is getting more and more difficult to find this famed bird is in the wild. These majestic birds were hit extremely hard by the overuse of DDT in the 196os and their numbers have struggled to recover ever since.
While great Conservation efforts have helped to get the Bald Eagle off the endangered species list, it is still protected under federal laws. However, just because the law has their back doesn’t mean these birds don’t need a little extra help every now and then.
Take the Bald Eagle fledgling featured in this video. Perhaps he endeavored on a flight that was too long for his young wings to handle and found himself in a rather difficult situation. When the fisherman in this video spotted the bird, he was floundering (but amazingly managed to stay afloat) in Nanoose Bay off British Columbia. If you didn’t know birds could swim, well, neither did we!
Thank goodness this kind fisherman spotted the eagle in time and was able to rescue him from his aquatic mis-hap and arrange for his transport to the O.W.L. Refuge who can properly rehabilitate and release the amazing bird.
The dialogue between the fisherman and the bird is pretty hilarious given the fact that the eagle can’t respond. So, on behalf of the rescued eagle, “thank you!”

That fisherman is a hero. Thanks goes out to him, and may God bless him.
