Sometimes you need to get a little creative when trying to rescue an animal in need. A frightened, trapped animal has no way of knowing that they are about to be rescued, so it’s pretty understandable that they would be less than thrilled to run into the open arms of a human. Even pro-rescuers have to utilize bribes and special tactics to win over the trust of the animals they’ve set out to help. Most of the time, a trail of treats is enough to coerce even the most resistant rescuee, but in some cases it takes a little bit more.
Just check out this rescue of a group of ducklings, for example. Six little ducks managed to waddle their way into a storm drain in Louisiana and get stuck. Luckily, local firefighters were more than prepared to come to their rescue. With a bit of quick thinking, Cody Knecht of the St. Tammany Fire District downloaded a duck call ringtone to lure the small birds from their hiding spot. In time, the ducklings started to make their way towards the call and the team successfully rescued all six!
