The holiday season is supposed to be filled with cheer and love, but a group of a dozen dogs got just the opposite when they were abandoned on the side of the road.
Deputy Long and LT. Brown of the Logan County Sheriff’s Department recently teamed up with Friends of Guthrie Animals to rescue a litter of puppies who were found roaming the woods in Logan County, Oklahoma.
According to the sheriff’s office, the dogs were quite obviously neglected as they were covered in fleas, had missing patches of hair, and needed immediate medical attention. The dogs also showed signs of aggression which could be attributed to a lack of socialization, fear, or a medical condition. Regardless, the fact that someone was so heartless as to leave these innocent, defenseless dogs to fend for themselves is cruel and should be addressed. Thankfully, the sheriff’s office and Friends of Guthrie County agree. Von Coburn and Friends of Guthrie Animals are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the individual(s) responsible for dumping these poor dogs.
The Sheriff’s Office shared on their Facebook page,“It is quite obvious that these dogs were dumped and left on the side of the road to fend for themselves. We don’t know how long they have been out there or what kind of condition these dogs were in prior to being left, but we want to find out. We want to find the person who did this and get answers.”
It sounds like whoever sentenced these innocent dogs to death is in for more than they bargained for, and rightfully so. Let’s also hope this serves as a reminder that owning a dog is a serious commitment. Pets should be treated with the same love, respect, and care as any other member of the family. When a dog is abandoned, whether on the streets or at a shelter, it affects not only that dog in ways you can’t imagine, but also other dogs awaiting a home and even the shelter workers and rescues themselves, emotionally and financially.
If you have any information about this case please call Lt. Brown at 405-260-3205 (Incident Report 2017-1661).
