Emirates Palace, a luxury hotel located in Abu Dhabi, has introduced dedicated vegan rooms in the West Wing to accommodate travelers who follow plant-based diets. These six units have been designed entirely without animal products, including faux leather furniture, feather-free duvets, and wooden floors instead of wool-based carpets. The vegan rooms also offer plant-based amenities in the bathrooms, vegan in-room dining menus, mini-bars stocked with almond and oat milk options, and a choice of kombuchas. Even the cleaning products, laundry detergents, bathrobes, and pool towels in these rooms are vegan-friendly. Additionally, guests visiting the spa can now try vegan products and treatments, while the hotel’s vegetable garden provides natural produce for expanded vegan menus in all restaurants.

The concept of vegan rooms was born out of the hotel’s focus on food sensitivities and preferences while designing menus and buffets, and was a natural progression to extend the thought process into guest rooms. The hotel staff received training to understand vegan lifestyles and guests receive a welcome kit featuring travel-sized products from the clean beauty brand Tata Harper. Four vegan rooms are located on the top floor, two of which are connecting, while two rooms on the ground floor offer direct access to the grounds and pool area.
The cost of creating vegan rooms is higher than that of standard rooms, given the specialist suppliers and limited quantities required. However, the hotel will not be charging extra for these rooms. Michael Koth, the general manager at Emirates Palace, stated that the hotel aims to be relevant to its current clientele, which includes those who choose to follow a vegan lifestyle, while also offering the same levels of luxury and quality as their “standard” counterparts. Koth hopes that Emirates Palace’s initiative will stimulate other hospitality providers to follow suit, promoting veganism as a mainstream option and not as a small niche.
The move towards vegan rooms highlights a growing trend in the hospitality industry, where travelers are seeking sustainable and ethical travel options. The trend is driven by a desire for eco-friendliness, animal welfare, and personal health. Many luxury hotels around the world are making efforts to be more eco-conscious and sustainable, from using renewable energy sources to minimizing plastic waste. By catering to the needs and preferences of plant-based travelers, Emirates Palace is setting a new standard in the luxury hospitality industry and paving the way for more sustainable and ethical travel options.
The launch of vegan rooms at Emirates Palace marks a significant milestone in the hospitality industry, providing plant-based travelers with the luxury and comfort they deserve while promoting sustainability and ethical travel. As more hotels and resorts begin to recognize the importance of catering to the needs of plant-based travelers, we can hope for a future where sustainability, animal welfare, and personal health are at the forefront of travel experiences. It is up to us, as travelers, to choose to Support these efforts and demand more sustainable and ethical travel options from the hospitality industry.
