When animals arrive at a sanctuary (if they are lucky enough to make it to one), they are understandably scared. All they know of humans is likely cruelty and fear, so it takes sanctuary workers some time to get rescued animals warmed up to their new homes and feeling like they have the freedom to run and play without inhibition.
As animal lovers, nothing warms our hearts more than seeing an animal finally get comfortable and flourish in their sanctuary home. We love watching them make friends, find love, make the most of the enriching stimuli provided to them by the sanctuary, and at the end of the day, snooze peacefully.
Last week, Farm Sanctuary had to evacuate their location in Southern California because of a sand fire. The donkeys in the video above, have just been let back onto their old stomping grounds, and they could not seem happier to be home! The way they roll around gleefully shows how much these animals have truly come to love their home.

Apparently whoever wrote this article had no knowledge of animals nor of the fire from which they were evacuated. First of all, they ARE NOT HORSES, BUT MULES! And they were evacuated from the Sand Fire, in Southern California, not a sand fire. Sheesh!
Er… those look like donkeys/burros.
