Photos Show Dogs Rescued From Fighting Ring Just Want to be Loved

The ASPCA is currently providing critical care for 45 dogs after helping remove them from what is suspected to be a dogfighting operation in Kansas.

When the ASPCA arrived on site with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, they found many of the dogs and puppies chained up, and almost all of them had scars covering their bodies. The person responsible for running this potential ring has since been arrested and charged with 42 counts of dogfighting and four counts of possession of dogfighting paraphernalia, amongst other offenses.

Field investigations operations director for ASPCA, Joel Lopez said: “Sadly, dogfighting is more prevalent than many people think and it continues to be a popular underground activity throughout the country. Our immediate goal is to transport these dogs to a safe place where they will receive much-needed care and treatment.”

After an incredibly quick turnaround, the dogs are now in the safe hands of ASPCA veterinarians after being transported to an emergency temporary shelter

Just trying to imagine what these poor dogs have been through is heartbreaking. The trust they must have shown their rescuers after being treated by someone far less kind is overwhelming to think about.

How anyone could look at a puppy like this and see the potential for entertainment through the violence of dogfighting, we will never understand. Smaller dogs and sometimes puppies are often used as bait to teach larger dogs to kill.

What these beautiful dogs and puppies now need more than anything after their ordeal is the time to recover, followed by lots of love and cuddles!

Dogfighting is illegal in all states, yet these awful people still continue to find ways to organize rings, subjecting dogs to the most brutal injuries and showing no regard for their well-being at all. The mindset of a person who thinks watching dogs rip each other apart for their entertainment is thankfully one not too many of us can understand!

We are so happy that the ASPCA was able to step in and help these dogs, even if we wish it wasn’t necessary! Their work is never-ending, between rescuing dogs, helping with adoption, and educating the public, and as a not-for-profit organization, the ASPCA relies heavily on donations to keep going. If you are in a position to Donate or would like to know more, please take a look at their Facebook page.

  1. I cannot for the life of me understand how human beings can see themselves as a higher species but then at the same time lower themselves to the most horrendous acts of cruelty and violence against innocent creatures as animals.
Humans who do such things should be imprisoned because the violence they do to animals is proof that they will do the same to humans.
So happy these dogs were rescued. I hope the demon infested perpetrator will be judged and imprisoned for a long time and I hope his prison mates will treat him as badly as he treated his dogs
