Stray Rescue of St. Louis is a non-profit organization with a goal to, “rescue stray animals in need of medical attention, restore them to health, and place them in loving adoptive homes.” The organization was founded in 1998 by Randy Grimm, who has long been an advocate for abandoned and feral animals, having rescued thousands of street dogs throughout the years. Now, Stray Dogs of St. Louis has over 300 foster parents, more than 1,000 volunteers and on average saves and adopts out 3,000 companion animals a year.

The rescue group recently aided in the heartwarming reunion of a senior pup who had become trapped in a sewer with her worried dad and now Stray Rescue of St. Louis is once again leaving us inspired with their most recent rescue!

Stray Rescue of St. Louis recently rescued a dog who was unbelievably tied to a dumpster. Now named Serpentine, the group couldn’t believe someone would tie up an innocent dog to a dumpster and leave her to fend for herself in the summer heat

Serpentine got her “Freedom Ride,” a term rescuers use for when an animal is rescued and finally gets to experience freedom and safety. Look at this sweet girl’s face!

Thank you, Stray Dogs of St. Louis for rescuing Serpentine. We know she is in the very best of hands with you. If you happen to come across a dog or cat, or any other animal in need, check out these Animal Rescue Hotlines. You could help save a life.

The summertime heat can be deadly to our furry friends with exercise and exposure potentially endangering them. Even at picnics and parks, keep a close eye on the pooches. Dogs need constant access to clean, cool water, and adequate shade to avoid overheating.

Watch for the early signs of heat stroke or heat-related illness: anxiety and restlessness, constant heavy panting, red, inflamed gums, or feeling hot to our touch on the ears. Be prepared to move your pet to better shade or indoors to air conditioning at the first sign of trouble and you might just save yourself a trip to the veterinary emergency clinic.

Injuries and deaths due to summer heat are always tragic but the loss of a beloved pet to such an unnecessary cause raises an opportunity. These deaths are some of the most preventable cases of animal suffering because each and every citizen can make a difference. Simply put, our pets are better off spending their summer days lounging on the couch at home in the air conditioning, waiting for our return with bright eyes and a wagging tail.
