In the western Slovakian village of Šterusy, a recent traffic stop turned into an amusing story that left both law enforcement officers and social media users in stitches. The unsuspecting culprit in this rather peculiar incident was not a reckless human driver but a brown hunting dog.
The tale unfolded as a patrol car in Šterusy was monitoring traffic. Suddenly, the officer’s attention was drawn to an unusual sight: a dog appeared to be seated comfortably behind the wheel, its furry face peering through the windshield.
Rather than witnessing a typical traffic violation, the officers were treated to the comical sight of a dog seemingly in control of the vehicle. Their amusement was evident as they captured the incident on camera and later shared the story on social media. The translated Facebook post by Polícia Slovenskej read: “Instead of a photo of the driver, a brown hunting dog was smiling beautifully into the camera, obediently sitting behind the wheel of a Škoda and peering through the windshield at promising young deer.”
As it turned out, the dog’s joyride was not the result of an animal rebellion, but rather the handiwork of his 31-year-old human, who was operating the vehicle. The man was subsequently pulled over and handed an immediate fine for the incident. According to the driver, the dog had suddenly jumped onto his lap while he was driving, leading to the humorous misunderstanding.
While the Slovakian police handled this incident with good humor, they used it as an opportunity to remind drivers about the importance of safety when transporting animal companions. They emphasized that any sized animal, even a small one, can pose safety risks while driving. Humans of animal companions need to secure their animals properly to ensure the safety of both the animals and other road users.
