In recent weeks, the peaceful Union Cemetery in Middle Island, Long Island, has become the unsettling scene of reported animal sacrifices, causing alarm among locals and prompting action from the Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). In response to these gruesome discoveries, the SPCA has offered a $2,000 reward for information leading to the apprehension of those responsible for the disturbing acts.
The first incident occurred on October 17 when an awful find was made at the cemetery on Middle County Road. The remains of three animals—a chicken, a black rooster, and a white dove—were discovered arranged in a circular pattern, all with their heads severed. Detectives from the Suffolk County SPCA have expressed their belief that these animals were likely used in a ritualistic sacrifice, raising concerns about the nature of the acts taking place in the cemetery.
Several weeks later, on November 8, the SPCA received another report of a beheaded chicken found at the same cemetery. This time, the animal was placed in a bag alongside chunks of coconut. Investigators also uncovered a disturbing assortment of items, including fruits, vegetables, candles, and the skeletal remains of a goat’s head. The presence of these ritualistic elements only deepens the mystery surrounding the motives behind these disturbing acts.
In response to these incidents, the Suffolk County SPCA took to social media to announce the $2,000 reward for information that could lead to the arrest of the individuals responsible for what they describe as “barbaric acts of animal cruelty.” The reward is specifically aimed at bringing to justice anyone involved in the unjustifiable harm, mutilation, or killing of animals in connection with these sacrificial activities.
This is not the first time such incidents have occurred in the area, as the SPCA mentioned two previous cases in August where decapitated chickens were found at the Old Baptist Cemetery in Coram. However, it remains unclear whether these cases are connected to the recent occurrences at Union Cemetery, adding a layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation.
