Here’s a happy family. Owners are lucky enough when their dogs and cats get along, but add a bird to the mix and this is nothing short of miraculous. Watch this friendly crow share a snack with its two mammalian roommates. The cat is licking its chops, but the crow has nothing to be afraid of!
When asked to name the smartest animals, dolphins, primates, dogs, and pigs usually come to mind, but recent research shows that crows are as intelligent as human children in some ways. When researchers tested crows and 5 to 7-year-old children on how to raise the water level in a glass, both children and crows learned the cause-and-effect relationship of dropping solid objects in the water to raise its level. Tellingly, this puzzle was based on Aesop’s fable “The Crow and the Pitcher,” in which a thirsty crow drops stones in a shallow pitcher of water until it can get a drink. This suggests crow cleverness was on the radar for thousands of years.
We knew crows were smart, but now we know they can also be sweet.
