The truth about the meat industry is making its way to mainstream media.
Journalist and author Chris Leonard was recently featured on Bill Maher to discuss his book, “The Meat Racket: The Secret Takeover of America’s Food Business.”
On the show, Leonard explains to Maher and the audience about the concerns he has about the U.S. meat industry, including issues of the impact of meat business on public policy, the role of Obama’s prior campaign promises about reform in the meat industry (and how the meat industry fought back), ag-gag laws, and the frightening power meat companies have over the farmers who supply meat to them.
According to Natural News, Leonard’s book “focuses almost exclusively on the economic factors that drive the chicken industry.” Leonard writes that he exposes “the hidden power structure that has quietly reshaped U.S. rural economies while gaining unprecedented control over the nation’s meat supply.”
Leonard also discusses corporate meat giant Tyson Foods and how the company has shaped the modern chicken industry — and how a 20 percent monopoly of the industry gives companies like Tyson so much power — not only over the meat industry, but over the government and farmers all across the country.
We’re happy to see this kind of expose information being delivered to the masses via popular shows like Maher’s. Let us know what you think about Leonard and his appearance in the comments below.
