Chickens are pretty amazing animals. They’re intelligent, social, can communicate with more than 30 different calls, and they’re great cuddle partners. Despite all of their admirable characteristics, chickens are some of the most abused animals in the meat industry.
On factory farms, chickens live in hellish conditions in which they’re crammed together in tiny wire cages. Their naturally small bodies have been bred to grow larger than their frames can Support and many collapse and die of exhaustion with broken legs from trying to withstand their weight at very young ages.
Recently, some incredible animal advocates from Mino Valley Farm Sanctuary carried out an urgent rescue of 51 chicks from a factory farm. Rescuers said that the chicks had been living in terrible conditions, surrounded by dead chickens.
In a video, a volunteer is seen cuddling one of these rescued little ones. This sweet bird snuggles right up to his chest and enjoys the gentle strokes of his caretaker, just like a kitten. We’re so glad this chicken and 50 others will now get the chance to lead a life free from harm in their new sanctuary home.
