Superstition has been proven wrong in this case as a special, little black cat proved to be a savior and not a bad omen. Luna the cat, in essence, rescued her family of eight from a house fire.
Emily Chapell-Roots wasn’t a big fan of Luna at first. “I didn’t want a cat. Jericho [her husband] and the kids wanted a cat,” she said to Fox 46.
But after the house fire, Chapell-Roots is changing her tune. What could have been a deadly fire that killed the family while they slept, ended up destroying only property thanks to Luna’s quick action!
Early in the morning, Luna crept into the house and pawed at her guardian’s feet. Normally, this was something Luna would do when she had a little dead animal present to show off. The cat was persistent, as usual, that her guardian should wake up and recognize her. Except, this time, it wasn’t about a present. When Chapell-Roots walked out of the bedroom and down the hallway, she noticed flames. Acting fast, she woke up her family and got everyone out of the house.
Chapell-Roots and her family have since set up a GoFundMe to help them plant new roots somewhere else now that they’ve lost everything else. While she wasn’t first interested in having a cat, she now says Luna is part of the family.
“She will be on wet food for life. Wherever we go has to be a home that will let her go with us!” said Chappell-Root.
