Do you remember how much fun playing in the mud was when you were a little kid? Of course, your parents were always less thrilled when you came in from playing outside completely caked in mud, but jumping in puddles and making mud pies was definitely worth the scolding.
Turns out human children are not the only ones who love playing in the gooey mud. The baby elephants in this video are so excited to play in this giant mud pit, they can’t even handle their excitement! Running at full speed and diving in head first, these calves look like they are having the time of their lives.
For elephants, playing in the mud is not only incredibly fun, but it is also a great survival tactic. Elephants use mud like a natural sunscreen that keeps their sensitive skin hydrated and protected from the hot sun. Maybe if we used that excuse when we were little, our parents wouldn’t have been so miffed about us getting dirty.
