Elephants aren’t so different from us. For starters, members of the same herd look out for each other in the same way we would look out for our loved ones. They also experience complex emotions and have been known to mourn and grieve when they lose family members or friends. Sadly, most people don’t always see these similarities. Sometimes, all it takes is a simple video like this one, where a mama elephant ends her baby’s bath time far too soon, to understand how alike  we are.

Mama elephant just wants to get her baby clean and get on with her busy day of elephant business. After he’s all squeaky clean, she gently guides him away from the watering hole with her trunk, but he has other ideas — he’s not quite done with bath time! Sensing her baby’s up-to-no-good-ness, she gives his tush a very parental nudge with her foot, but to no avail. He thwarts his mother’s efforts and dives face-first into the mud.

The mother and baby in this video are very lucky to be able to live together peacefully in the wild. Unfortunately, due to the threat of poaching and captivity, this is not something that all elephants get to enjoy.

If you think all elephants deserve this bliss, share this video!
