How fortunate we all are to be able to witness such incredible moments, such as this, in the animal kingdom. This video of a baby elephant struggling to take its first steps is so precious! The care the mother takes in assisting her little one is also just as sweet. It really makes you wonder how anyone could hurt such majestic animals. From exploitation, captivity, and trophy hunting, these elephants suffer immensely at the hands of humans.

Most people are aware of the ivory trade, but the exploitation of elephants for human entertainment is also in direct correlation with poaching. Most elephants used in the tourism industries are taken away from their mothers at a very young age and endure agonizing torture to be broken and trained. The mothers are brutally killed while trying to protect their young. The tourism and trekking industries work hard at hiding these cruelties and many people are not educated enough about elephants to know that the conditions many of them live in are beyond cramped and unsanitary. As very social animals, elephants crave interaction with other elephants, which they seldom get in captivity. In nature, elephants grieve the dead and form strong bonds with their young.
