Aly Raisman is an inspiration and role model to many, and while her determination, strength, and accomplishments are certainly admirable, her latest announcement may be one of the biggest reasons we like the Olympian. Raisman says she has been incorporating a plant-based diet into her life for the past six months while getting her family and friends on board with her. And now she has partnered with plant-based food delivery service Purple Carrot to help further spread the message of plant-based nutrition. She will stand as a spokesperson for the brand and collaborate on recipes with their culinary team.
Here’s what Aly has to say about her new lifestyle choice, as stated on the Purple Carrot website: “I’ve been listening to my body more, focusing on what makes me feel good and seeking a balance every day. I’m in the process of incorporating more plant-based meals into my diet with Purple Carrot. I have more energy and it’s therapeutic for me to cook with the fun and creative recipes when I’m home.”
Raisman explained her reasoning to make the switch, as reported in the Boston Globe: “I started watching documentaries about eating plant-based foods and the awful ways animals are treated … When I was training, I would eat a lot of meat and drink a lot of milk. From the time I was very little, I thought it was the only way to get your protein.”
But Raisman says plant-based eating is a “no-brainer … It feels very right, and it’s fun to look at your plate that’s colorful and beautiful. It’s something that has helped me.”
What are some of Raisman’s favorite foods? Berries, granola, cashew-based dairy alternatives, zucchini noodles, soups, and when her friends need convincing, she whips up a kale and artichoke dip.
Purple Carrot has also partnered with Tom Brady, a partnership that proved to be successful and helped spread the plant-based message to football fans. Purple Carrot’s partnerships with Raisman and Brady, two of the world’s top athletes, show everyone that humans do not need animal products to stay strong and at the top of their game. If world-class athletes can thrive on plant-based nutrition, surely everyone else can as well.
