The leather-free sneaker uses a natural recipe of rubber, plant oils, rice hulls, and citrus peels. It is 100 percent plastic-free, 100 percent vegan, and uses agricultural byproducts to create a sustainable sound sneaker.
The material is made from Mirum in partnership with material science company Natural Fiber Welding (NFW). The sneaker produces 88 percent less carbon than traditional animal leather shoes and 75 percent less than synthetic leather.
The shoe will also be accompanied by a canvas version that is made with organic cotton. It will be available in beige, teal, black, and white. The plant-based version is white and dreamy green. Both models are lined with Allbirds’s signature tree material, and the midsole has SweetFoam cushioning.
The Plant Pacers are available for around $135, while the canvas style will sell for $110. To shop for your newest plant-based sneaker, check out Allbirds.
