It is disgusting to hear about cases of animal cruelty and abandonment, but the harsh reality is that animals of all sorts are abused and neglected at the hands of humans. But, it gives us hope to know that so many of us are willing to rehabilitate injured animals, help them find forever homes and lead happy lives. After all, why would these precious animals deserve anything else? They bring so much joy into our lives.
Duke, the dog in this video, was abandoned and left without food or water. He was so exhausted that he could barely lift the weight of his chain as he walked. Ilioupolis Animal Welfare Union’s volunteers rescued him and treated him for dirofilaria.
Now, Duke is doing much better since he’s been adopted! He weighs about 37.5 pounds and reportedly is a happy dog who loves people, kids, other dogs, nutritious meals and going on long walks. Wow, his small pleasures of life seem very similar to ours: Friends, family, loving animals, exercise and healthy food!
