As the world gets back to “normal,” after long periods of quarantine during the pandemic, many people are still having trouble following a consistent sleep schedule. According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, 20 percent of adults reported sleep troubles during the pandemic during a summer 2020 study. And 60 percent struggled with pandemic-related insomnia.

“A lot of people thought that our sleep should be getting better because we can see the light at the end of the tunnel — but it’s worse now than it was last year,” said Dr. Fariha Abbasi-Feinberg, a sleep medicine specialist.

Start by picking a wake-up time and setting your alarm. Stick to this time every single day. Subtract 7-8 hours from your chosen wake-up time, and that’s going to be your bedtime. You have to stick to this bedtime every day as well. Subtract another 8 hours from your bedtime, and this will be the time you should stop consuming caffeine. In the first hour that you wake up, go outside and do some kind of movement, making sure to get a decent amount of sunlight. Sunlight will help set your circadian rhythm. This TikToker claims that if you stay consistent and stick to this routine for 2 weeks, you will start waking up before your alarm even goes off, and be a guaranteed morning person!
