Soursop, also known as graviola or guanabana is a tropical fruit that comes from the Annona muricata tree, and is native to Central and South America, and parts of the Caribbean. It has a unique flavor many describe as a combination of strawberry, apple, and pineapple, with a hint of sourness. Soursop has prickly dark green outer skin, with creamy and white flesh, similar to that of a banana and has large seeds in the center.
Soursop has been used for centuries in traditional medicine, and it is believed to have cancer-fighting properties, although more research on humans is required. In addition to its potential cancer-fighting properties, soursop is also a good source of vitamins and minerals. Just one 3.5-ounce serving of this fruit contains 34% of the RDI for vitamin C, 8% of the RDI for potassium, 5% of the RDI for magnesium, and 3.3 grams of fiber! Soursop is also a natural anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial.
