Life can sometimes feel like a balancing act if you’re constantly trying to juggle a heaping to-do list. As important as it is to be productive, too much on your plate can sometimes amp up your stress to unbearable levels. Gardening provides an outlet for your time. Setting your mind to embark upon a task with obvious and edible results can have a huge effect on self-satisfaction and feelings of personal growth. Like cooking, where you see the fruits of your labor, gardening produces tangible evidence of your investment in time and energy. Take the time for yourself to decompress and have a place to go to just let your thoughts flow and your mind wander.

When it comes to mind and mental well-being, stretching can be a ticket to calm. Stretching has been shown to reduce stress, calm the mind, and can even help you get into a state of meditation. No matter what type of stretching you perform or if you attend a yoga class a few times a week, this type of physical activity and exertion is incredibly beneficial for both your mind and your body. It’s well-documented that exercise can help lift depression and improve your mood due to increased blood flow, better body image, and the release of endorphins. Stretching and/or yoga both have similar effects yet offer a more calming edge through breathing and slow movements.

This one is another one we hear a lot, but it’s so important. As natural beings, we are hardwired to connect with nature and natural things. If you can’t spend some time in nature every day, at least try and schedule an hour or more every few days or, at the very least, once a week. Also, filling your home with various plants is a great way to incorporate nature into your life.

Salt water baths are popular for their therapeutic and healing properties. They are a great way to relieve stress after a long day, ease sore muscles, and promote a sense of calm. They can be found in drugstores and supermarkets in the toiletries section and often come scented with herbals, such as lavender or eucalyptus. So, get experimenting with some homemade bath salts and take your bathtime experience up a notch.

Whether you’re looking to ease the stress from a busy day, or calm racing thoughts, journaling is a self-care technique that anyone can do. All you need is a pen and some paper, and a quiet space. There is no right or wrong way to journal. You can write down what you are grateful for, how your day went, goals you would like to accomplish, or even pleasant memories. Journaling is a fantastic way to jolt ourselves into mindfulness. Journaling is well-regarded as a stress-reliever, problem-solving, and argument-settling hobby.

When we’re feeling anxious and overwhelmed, one of the best things you can do is pick up a book you enjoy. Immersing ourselves in another world for a little while can calm your train of thought that seems to never end.
These are just a few of the things you can do to decrease stress and reclaim your life, and the good news is that you are in charge when it comes to designing your life. So really zone in on the things that are most important to you and realize what your values and goals are for yourself because you deserve to live the life you want to live. Also, always be sure to seek professional care if your symptoms of stress continue or worsen.
