Vegan Sneaker Brand LØCI Backed by Leonardo DiCaprio

Vegan sneakers

Noted environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio has become an investor in yet another sustainable company. This time, DiCaprio has invested an undisclosed sum in the British fashion brand LØCI. The footwear brand creates sustainable, vegan sneakers. Sadly, many footwear products are made using leather, suede, and glue. These materials are derived from animal products and contribute to the exploitation and suffering of animals around the world. However, LØCI is committed to creating stylish sneakers that are both completely vegan and sustainable. Their sneakers are made from recycled bamboo, foam, and rubber, but LØCI also recycles 20 plastic bottles for use in every pair. By utilizing recycled materials, including plastics, LØCI is helping to create a circular economy that keeps potential pollutants from being discarded.

Leonardo DiCaprio is an Academy Award-winning actor and a passionate environmentalist. DiCaprio has been a vocal advocate for environmentalist issues throughout his career. In 1998, he even founded the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation which supports many different global conservation projects. The actor is also a board member of several prominent environmental groups and has received several prestigious awards for his work. Throughout his environmental work, DiCaprio has frequently advocated for plant-based diets. He has even invested in several companies which create plant-based meat alternatives.

Founded in 2021, LØCI is already a celebrity favorite. Not only does DiCaprio himself frequently sport sneakers from LØCI, but the vegan sneakers have also been spotted on actress Lily James and Princess Eugenie.

One of LØCI’s founders, Emmanuel Eribo has described having DiCaprio as a company investor as a “blessing”. DiCaprio has in turn praised the brand for their commitment to creating sustainable, cruelty-free fashion.

The fashion industry is responsible for roughly 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Not only does this negatively impact the earth’s climate, but fast fashion is also responsible for devastating amounts of water use, Pollution, and microplastics. Brands like LØCI are fighting to challenge the damage done by fast fashion. By creating sneakers from secondhand and biodegradable materials, the company is hoping to reduce its environmental footprint while creating an amazing product.

While brands like LØCI are making great strides in cruelty-free fashion, many major fashion brands continue to use leather to create a variety of products. Animals kept captive to make leather are brutalized throughout their short lives and cruelly slaughtered. In some cases, the poor creatures are skinned alive. Animal cruelty and slaughter is never fashionable! Leather is barbaric and needs to go! Sign this petition Telling Major Fashion Brands to Ditch Leather!
