The next time you buy garlic at the store, don’t throw away the plastic mesh that they are packaged in! This tiktoker shared a creative way to repurpose the packaging and make a DIY dish scrubber. @skysaba (Happy Earth Habits) acknowledges that avoiding plastic all together is the best option, however if you can’t avoid it, or have some lying around, this hack will save you money and give new life to things that otherwise would have been thrown away.

To make your DIY pot scrubber, gather together a few pieces of mesh and cut off the metal end piece of both sides. Next, set aside the mesh that’s in the best condition, and this will be the outside part of the dish scrubber. Now, grabbing the rest of the mesh bags, simply roll them up into a circular, donut shape. Repeat this with as many mesh pieces as you have until it becomes bigger and scrunched up. The more sheets you use, the bigger the scrubber will be. Next, using the mesh that you set aside for the outside, knot it the end and invert it so the knot is inside the bag. You will now fill the bag with the other rolled up mesh bags and and knot the scrubber closed.

This scrubber can be washed clean after each use and even undone and washed thoroughly after a few uses. Though this is still a plastic item, it will reduce the need for buying more plastic pot scrubbers and keep at least a few of those bags from the trash.
