The founders of Beekman 1802, a beauty company in upstate New York, embarked on a journey that began with compassion and evolved into their latest plant-based collection. What started as a humble venture, offering goat’s milk soap to the world, has now blossomed into a pioneering move towards vegan skincare, catering specifically to the demands of Generation Z.
Brent Ridge, a physician and one of the founders of Beekman 1802, recalls the origins of their enterprise. Back in 2008, a struggling neighbor and his herd of 80 dairy goats found refuge on their farm. With this, the seeds of Beekman 1802 were sown, with goat’s milk at the heart of their product line.
However, now Beekman 1802 is at the forefront of redefining traditional beauty standards. The company has unveiled its latest creations: vegan versions of their signature goat’s milk products. These vegan alternatives, meticulously crafted from plant-based sources, mirror the benefits of goat’s milk while addressing the growing demand for sustainable skincare solutions.
Leslie Baumann, a dermatologist, emphasizes the soothing and anti-inflammatory properties inherent in goat’s milk. With its rich composition of lactic acid, natural peptides, and fatty acids, goat’s milk has long been cherished for its ability to nurture and balance the skin’s microbiome. Building upon this foundation, Beekman 1802 embarked on a quest for deeper understanding, commissioning a comprehensive study to dissect the intricacies of goat’s milk components.
The result? A fusion of science and nature, culminating in the creation of three innovative vegan skincare products: a gel cleanser, a toner, and a moisturizer. Drawing inspiration from nature, Beekman 1802 harnesses the power of coconuts, oats, peas, and sugar cane to replicate the nurturing essence of goat’s milk in the Gen Z Collection. Through a fermentation process, these plant-derived ingredients harmonize to deliver a transformative skincare experience. By dialing down the fatty acids, the vegan line caters to the diverse skincare needs of younger consumers, offering a light and refreshing alternative to traditional formulations.
As Josh Kilmer-Purcell, co-founder of Beekman 1802, affirms, the Gen Z Collection represents more than just a skincare revolution—it embodies a shared commitment to authenticity and innovation.
