A rapidly growing HIV crisis is unfolding in Fiji, with health experts warning it is now one of the fastest growing HIV epidemics in the world. New diagnoses reportedly tripled between 2023 and 2024. In the first half of 2025 alone, medical teams identified more than 1,200 new cases. The outbreak affects adults and children, including newborn babies infected during birth. With proper treatment and prevention tools available, many advocates say this crisis should never be escalating. Sign the petition now urging wealthy nations to step in and help expand access to life saving HIV medicines.
Doctors in Fiji warn that stigma, lack of awareness, and limited access to treatment are driving the outbreak. According to HIV response leader Dr. Jason Mitchell, a child younger than five reportedly dies from HIV related illness each month. However, modern medicines such as PrEP and PEP can prevent infection and save lives when available.
Fiji has pledged about $10 million in 2025 to strengthen its response, while Australia and New Zealand have offered Support. Advocates now call on the United Kingdom and the European Union to provide urgent global health assistance. Sign the petition now to help stop this preventable crisis. Sign the petition now.
