In the heart of the Florida Everglades, around 900 people are being held in a hastily built detention camp nicknamed Alligator Alcatraz. Surrounded by snakes and alligators, they endure metal cages crammed with 32 people each, open-air toilets where drinking water comes from a tap on the back of the toilet tank, and food allegedly infested with maggots. There’s so little access to showers that people wake at 3am to bathe—or go another week without washing. Authorities plan to expand the site to hold over 3,000 people.

Florida and ICE have restricted lawmakers’ access, showing only empty areas while blocking entry to medical sections. Many detainees have no criminal record, no legal help, and no privacy. This cruelty must end—sign the petition now to shut down Alligator Alcatraz before conditions worsen.
