Hens in battery cages

Unfortunately, the world is not a very peaceful or safe place for many individuals. From conflict to abuse to exploitation, there is so much cruelty inflicted on both humans and animals. While this can get disheartening and difficult to hear about, petitions are a great way to use your voice for good. Just by signing one, you are a part of helping those who are not treated fairly. You can even share them with your friends and acquaintances to increase your impact.

Through petitions, we can reach those in power and demand justice for others. They are valuable tools for making positive changes in the world. If you are looking for a way to help animals and humans, here are 10 petitions you should sign this week, including Help Child Abuse Victims Receive Free Counseling, Urge the UK to Ban Battery Egg Imports, and Help Shut Down Slaughterhouse for Extreme Animal Abuse.

We want to thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.

Torrential flooding is happening all around the world, destroying infrastructure and even causing fatalities. Scientists have warned us that Climate change will also include extreme weather events like flooding, and it’s time we listen. Please sign this petition to urge the World Bank to fund projects that will help solve the climate crisis!

2. Help Ensure Child Abuse Victims Receive Free Counseling

Authorities in Tennessee discovered a six-year-old child who had his arm broken by his parents, other children living in terrible conditions, and young puppies living in their feces in a cramped cage without food or water. The people responsible for this neglect and abuse are yet another example of how child abuse and animal abuse are linked. Please sign this petition to help ensure these children receive the free counseling they deserve!

3. Urge the UK to Ban Battery Egg Imports

The UK Government has made several promises over the last few years that it would prioritize animal welfare. However, after its exit from the European Union, new trading arrangements are about to be made that would confine animals to extremely cruel conditions. The trade deal would import eggs produced from hens raised in battery cages, which are so small that the chickens can’t even stretch their wings. Please sign this petition to urge the UK to ban battery egg imports!

4. Tell the Gladiator 2 Production Team to Use CGI Instead of Live Animals

While many moviegoers are excited about the release of Gladiator 2, the production of the film has not been without controversy. Reports have stated that live monkeys and horses are being used and that a horse even collapsed due to extreme weather conditions in the filming location. Animals should never be used as entertainment for humans. Please sign this petition to urge the production team to replace all the live animals on set with CGI instead!

5. Help Protect Endangered Marine Animals from Becoming Extinct

Vaquitas are cousins with dolphins and are the smallest porpoises on the planet. They’re also incredibly rare, as it is estimated that there are less than ten still in existence! Recently, however, a new threat has emerged for the Vaquita as fisheries have been allowed to participate in the captive-bred trade of totoaba fish. This opens up the doors for wild-caught totoaba, which will be caught by the industry using gillnets, and which vaquita can become entangled in. Please sign this petition to pressure the Biden Administration to protect this rare and beautiful mammal!

6. Help Overturn Draconian Law in Texas That Bans Mandatory Water Breaks for Workers

The governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, just banned mandatory water breaks for workers. Considering that Texas is experiencing a severe heat wave, this ban could lead to lead to many workers coming down with heat-related illnesses. Not only is this cruel, but it could potentially be life-threatening. Please sign this petition to urge legislators in Texas to overturn this draconian law!

7. Ask Police Department to Help Curb Pollution

Several celebrities have received backlash for their use of private jets, but LAPD helicopters have released more than twice the amount of emissions as the public figure who has the highest private jet emissions. On top of that, these helicopters are often used for standard patrolling instead of emergencies. Please sign this petition to urge the LAPD to curb its use of helicopters!

8. Urge Coca-Cola to Remove Aspartame from its Products

The World Health Organization recently stated that aspartame, an artificial sweetener found in Diet Coke and many other products, may be carcinogenic. In 2020, PepsiCo decided to remove aspartame from Diet Pepsi, but Coke has yet to announce any plans of doing the same. Please sign this petition to demand that Coca-Cola remove aspartame from its products!

9. Help Shut Down Slaughterhouse for Extreme Animal Abuse

Petaluma Poultry, a Perdue Farms subsidiary, has come under fire recently after a report from DxE exposed this slaughterhouse for extreme animal abuse. Chickens are fully conscious before being slaughtered, some are boiled alive, and the conditions of the slaughterhouse are very unsanitary. Please sign this petition to urge the USDA to shut down Petaluma Poultry!

10. Ask States to Test for Pesticides in Cannabis

The cannabis industry has been growing steadily for several years, but the increase in production has also meant an increase in large-scale farms and pesticide use. Cannabis isn’t controlled by any federal body because it’s still considered a Schedule 1 drug, and the EPA can’t regulate pesticide use for its production. On top of that, pesticide testing for cannabis in Florida and Rhode Island is optional, which may cause many consumers and ecosystems to be exposed to potentially high levels of these harmful substances. Please sign this petition to require these states to test for pesticides in cannabis!
