Unfortunately, the world is not a very peaceful or safe place for many individuals. From conflict to abuse to exploitation, there is so much cruelty inflicted on both humans and animals. While this can get disheartening and difficult to hear about, petitions are a great way to use your voice for good. Just by signing one, you are a part of helping those who are not treated fairly. You can even share them with your friends and acquaintances to increase your impact.
Through petitions, we can reach those in power and demand justice for others. They are valuable tools for making positive changes in the world. If you are looking for a way to help animals and humans, here are 12 petitions you should sign this week, including Ask Vietnam’s Government to Expedite the Shutdown of Bear Bile Farms, Pressure Romania’s Prime Minister to Ban Fur Farming, Demand Justice for Kitten Who Was Thrown into a Fire Pit, and More!
We want to thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.

Netflix has received some backlash for its latest true crime show called “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.” The victims’ families have voiced their displeasure with their portrayal in the show and for not consulting them about their experiences. In one instance, the show recreated a scene where the sister of a victim was reading a deeply personal statement in the trial, yet she wasn’t even contacted by Netflix to discuss the vulnerable scene. Netflix seems to care more about profit than retraumatizing the families of Jeffrey Dahmer’s victims. Please sign this petition to pressure Netflix to Donate the profits of the show to the victims’ families.

Recently, a bear named Paddington was rescued from a bile farm in Vietnam and was sent to a sanctuary where she can live out her days in peace. Unfortunately, there are still hundreds of bears languishing in tiny cages and having their bile extracted in unimaginably cruel ways. The government is planning to shut down this barbaric industry, but that won’t be until 2035. Please sign this petition to demand the government of Vietnam expedite the shutdown!

A man in India tied a dog to his car and dragged him behind his vehicle. The dog endured multiple fractures and was lucky to survive the ordeal. Amazingly, the man is still able to drive his vehicle and is still allowed to keep animals in the future. There has been a string of animal abuse in this region as of late, with reports of mass killings and dogs being hung from lampposts. Please sign this petition to pressure the police to charge this man with animal cruelty and send a message that animal cruelty will not be tolerated!

The President of the World bank recently refused to acknowledge that fossil fuels drive Climate change at an event. This is alarming because poor countries are suffering the most from Climate change and the World Bank is supposed to help boost the standard of living in these countries through loans. If the director of this powerful bank doesn’t understand one of the biggest problems these countries face, then he shouldn’t be in his position. Please sign this petition to urge Biden to remove him from his position and appoint someone who understands the threat of human-caused Climate change!

Despite having a reputation for being an animal-friendly country, the United Kingdom still views pets as property in its legal system. In contrast to this, Spain recently revised their laws to take into account the well-being of pets in custody arrangements. This means that the person who purchased the pet won’t automatically get custody of them anymore if it isn’t in the best interest of the pet. Please sign this petition to tell the UK Parliament to follow Spain’s lead!

Following a fire in an Amazon warehouse, some employees refused to return to work because they felt it wasn’t safe to breathe in the smoke. Instead of understanding the concerns of their workers, Amazon decided to suspend them. The union is filing a charge against these suspensions, but we need to stand behind them as well. Please sign this petition to urge Amazon to implement safe labor practices and better protect its employees!

A dog in Lebanon, Pennsylvania was shot and killed by police after an unknown passerby had opened the gate to the dog’s yard and he wandered into the yard of a neighbor. The neighbor had called the police to help the dog get back to his family, but they instead cornered him, tased him, and then shot him in the head. The police claimed they did this to protect the public and themselves, but body cam footage has proven that to be false. On top of this, the department is now investigating the dog’s family instead of the officers. Please sign this petition to demand authorities stop this investigation and fire the officer responsible for killing this innocent dog!

Spain is set to pass animal welfare legislation that will benefit millions of pets across the country. However, the legislation doesn’t include hunting dogs, many of whom are killed and tortured every year. These poor dogs are forcibly bred and purchased by bloodthirsty hunters who keep them in small kennels living in their own filth. They are then killed or abandoned once the “owners” don’t find them useful anymore. Please sign this petition to urge the Spanish government to include hunting dogs in the proposed animal welfare law!

A couple in Brazil has come under fire after they dyed a waterfall blue and set off blue smoke bombs for their baby’s gender reveal party. The environmental consequences of this thoughtless action could be devastating and these people must be held responsible. Please sign this petition to pressure authorities to charge this couple for any ecological damage they may have caused.

Undercover footage of chinchilla farms in Romania was recently released by Humane Society International. Chinchillas are seen in tiny cages by themselves laying in their own excrement. Females are forced to mate continuously, even shortly after giving birth, and have to wear collars to prevent them from escaping while they’re getting raped. The Liberal Party has submitted a bill to Parliament that would ban mink and chinchilla footage, but we need to lend our voice to the cause as well. Please sign this petition to tell Romania’s Prime Minister to ban this archaic practice once and for all!

A man in Portland, Tennessee recently threw a tiny kitten into a fire pit. The kitten suffered from severe burns and smoke inhalation and died a few days later. The man was arrested but more needs to be done to ensure something like this doesn’t happen again. Please sign this petition to urge authorities in Portland to never allow this man to have animals again and have him undergo psychological treatment!

Someone in Gresham, Oregon has cut down around 750 trees with no apparent motive. This “serial tree killer” doesn’t appear to be using the trees in any way, but instead is just leaving the dead trees where they are. Video cameras have been set up but the assailant seems to be working under the cover at night and using a handsaw to avoid causing too much noise. Trees are a very important resource for wildlife and help protect against Climate change. Please sign this petition to urge Oregon officials to dedicate more resources to finding this tree killer.
