Last August, Cincinnati’s ish arts organization hosted Trashion, a unique and immersive eco-art fashion experience that aimed to promote waste reduction and sustainability. Held at the Mockbee, Trashion showcased teen-designed clothing that celebrated creative fashion design while advocating for a sustainable future.

Trashion was a one-of-a-kind event that brought together elements of pop culture and sustainability. Described as a mix between Hunger Games, Harry Potter’s Yule Ball, and Project Runway, the event aimed to showcase the best of creative fashion design while inspiring participants to reduce their environmental footprint. To create an immersive experience, the event was hosted in the spirit of vogue balls in drag culture, and participants created their own “house” with a general theme for the designs created by their group.

The highlight of Trashion was an upcycled costume fashion show, where teen designers showcased their creations, which were made entirely from recycled or upcycled materials. The designs were judged by a panel of fashion experts who evaluated the originality, creativity, and sustainability of each outfit. The event also featured a range of other attractions such as music, circus performers, and a silent disco.

The organizers of Trashion hoped to inspire a shift towards sustainable fashion, which is becoming increasingly important in today’s world. The fashion industry is the second-largest polluter globally, with textile waste and chemical Pollution contributing significantly to environmental damage. By promoting eco-art and sustainable fashion, Trashion sought to encourage individuals to think about the environmental impact of their clothing choices and adopt more sustainable practices.

Trashion’s success is a testament to the growing demand for sustainable fashion and eco-art. With more and more people becoming aware of the environmental impact of their actions, there is a need for creative solutions that blend art and sustainability. By promoting the use of recycled and upcycled materials in fashion design, Trashion demonstrated that fashion can be both creative and sustainable.
