The United States is facing a major step backwards for clean water. A Biden-era EPA rule designed to curb toxic wastewater from slaughterhouses was set to finally rein in Pollution from more than 120 meat facilities. Now the Trump administration has allegedly reversed it, putting waterways, wildlife, and communities at risk. Sign the petition now to demand urgent action.

Slaughterhouses release enormous quantities of nitrogen, phosphorus, cleaning chemicals, feces, and bacteria like E. coli. Researchers estimate more than 110 million pounds of nitrogen and phosphorus flow into U.S. waters each year from meat processing alone. Over the past decade, that adds up to more than one billion pounds of phosphorus—fueling algal blooms, killing fish, and harming human health. Communities near these sites, often low-income and disproportionately people of color, face polluted groundwater and increased risks of cancer and thyroid disease.

We cannot allow deregulation to continue. Sign the petition now and call for the EPA’s wastewater limits to be reinstated immediately.
