Climate change is no longer a distant warning. Rising seas are already putting more than 5,500 toxic waste sites across the United States at risk of flooding. These sites include facilities linked to sewage, oil and gas, industrial Pollution, and hazardous waste. As oceans rise due to melting glaciers and thermal expansion, floodwaters could allegedly spread dangerous chemicals into surrounding communities, waterways, and wildlife habitats.
This is not just an environmental issue. A recent study found that many at risk communities are already vulnerable, with higher levels of poverty, older residents, Hispanic households, and limited access to transportation. People, animals, and ecosystems could all be harmed if these toxic sites are not relocated away from coastlines.
State legislatures in Florida, Texas, New Jersey, Louisiana, California, New York, and Massachusetts must act now. Sign the petition now to demand real planning and prevention. Sign the petition now to protect communities, animals, and the environment. Sign the petition now before rising seas make this crisis irreversible.
