A whopping 31% of all food in the world is wasted — and in 2023, there is no excuse for this. 17% of that 31% is fully produced food, with 11% being lost in households. This means that one-tenth of all food waste happens at home.

This is a crisis, full stop. Food waste makes up the largest percentage of any form of waste in landfills in many countries, including the United States. Landfills produce many greenhouse gas emissions, which worsen Climate change.
