Sustainable fashion has another designer pushing the sustainability conversation forward. Kanye West. West talked about growing cotton that didn’t need to be dyed and the need to reduce nylon and other synthetic fabrics. The interview took place on West’s newly purchased Wyoming farm. The farm is both the source of inspiration and possibly new products for the clothing line.
“We’re building farms here, because of the climate and because of the soil, that have hydroponic cotton, wheat, hemp. We’re developing our own fabrics and we’re gonna go from ‘seed to sew,’ from farm to table so we can see the entire process… We gotta sustain, right?” said West.
West continued to talk about having his line manufactured in the United States, and made by former inmates. West seemed eager to discuss sustainable fashion, certainly a significant step in the industry.
“[We need to be] working for a renewal of the planet and a humility in humanity to understand that we will not destroy the earth — we could destroy the resources and we could destroy ourselves,” he said to Lowe.
