A holiday miracle! An elderly black cat named Benny was reunited with his family in New Hampshire just before Christmas, according to the New Hampshire SPCA (NHSPCA).

Over 7 years ago, Benny vanished from his house without a trace. His family searched for weeks when he first went missing but became worried about Benny because they lived in the woods. Without a lead on Benny, they began to fear the worst.

But Benny was a survivor! In mid-December, a good neighbor found him and brought him to a vet where he was microchipped and then his family was contacted! Owner Nancy Bryant was over the moon, to say the least. She even renamed Benny “St. Nick.”

“He’s our Christmas miracle,” Bryant shared with PEOPLE. “I still can’t believe it.” Their reunion was very special. ‘He hugged me right away. And he let me wrap him up in a blanket,” Bryant says of the reunion. “I sang to him all the way home. He fell asleep twice. He’s just a good baby.”

Staff at NHSPCA were also excited about the reunion. “That was pretty crazy and unheard of,” Kelly Marinel, Manager of Animal Care at NHSPCA Stratham told PEOPLE. “The fact that we were able to reunite him, and the fact that it was from so long ago was pretty amazing.”
