Dying eggs, receiving pastel-colored baskets filled with goodies, and of course, fluffy chicks and bunnies have practically become synonymous with Easter. With so many cute animals associated with this holiday, it’s no surprise that pet sellers craft an elaborate marketing scheme centered around these adorable creatures, especially baby chicks. But how far is too far?
Despite the fact that dying animals is still technically legal in almost half of U.S states, animal welfare activists warn that dipping these animals into dye for the pure entertainment of Easter fanatics, is a cruel practice. As you can see in the video above, the sellers of these chicks are anything but gentle. They dump the tiny birds into plastic bins and then douse them with dye. The saddest fact of the situation, is that once the novelty of these birds fades, it’s doubtful that children will give these animals the proper care that they deserve.
Let these little birds serve as a reminder that animals should only be adopted when we are fully aware of the responsibilities involved with taking care of another living being. Instead of giving a chick or bunny this Easter, check out these other ideas.
