Rescue Dog Wines, a unique winery based in Acampo, California, has spent the past seven years blending a love for animals with a passion for winemaking, aiming to save lives along the way. Founded in 2017 by Laura and Blair Lott, this small but impactful winery donates half of its profits to animal rescue organizations, supporting shelters and rehabilitation centers across the United States. Inspired by Daisy, Laura’s rescue dog, the Lotts transformed their vineyard into a mission-driven brand that has donated over $100,000 to rescue efforts.
Blair Lott recalls, “When I met Laura for the first time in Atlanta, where we both were living in 2008, she was a package deal with Daisy. I quickly fell in love with both of them, and we both realized we wanted to help other animals in need.” This shared love for animals led them to buy a vineyard in California’s Lodi region, where they could foster more pets and start winemaking in Daisy’s honor. Blair crafted a label featuring Daisy and soon found an enthusiastic online community, amassing 10,000 followers within weeks of their launch.
Rescue Dog Wines has become known for its labels, created by artist Lawrence Peters, which display dogs and sometimes cats, each capturing the essence of the wine inside. From their Cabernet Sauvignon to sparkling wines bearing Daisy’s likeness, each bottle tells a story of rescue. Their award-winning wines, crafted with winemakers Susana Rodriguez Vasquez and Eric Donaldson, range from rich reds to refreshing whites.
The winery actively contributes to rescues by donating wine to animal-related events, where organizations use these donations for auctions or gift bags to raise essential funds. “We have always said that we are a purpose-driven brand. Our primary goal is to raise money to help animal rescues,” says Blair. “ To date, we have donated over $100,000. It’s certainly not a recipe to get rich, but it is one that I wish more companies would follow.”
