As summer settles in, bringing thoughts of vacations and lazy days by the pool, it also brings in a challenging time for animal shelters across the country, including the Aiken County Animal Shelter. With overcrowding reaching critical levels, these shelters rely heavily on community Support to care for the thousands of animals that find themselves without homes each year.

In the face of this ongoing challenge, 10-year-old Hannah Wildoner has emerged. Passionate about animals from a young age, Hannah decided to turn her love for drawing into a meaningful initiative. She dedicated her time and talent to creating and selling her artwork, with every dollar earned going directly to Friends of the Animal Shelter, a vital Support organization for the Aiken County Animal Shelter.

“There are some animals that like, they need help with like more money with the vet bills, more toys, because last time I went there, they didn’t really have soft ground to lay on. It was mostly hard floor, so they can get like more beds,” Hannah explained, her empathy for shelter animals shining through her words. Her mother, Bernadette, expressed immense pride in her daughter’s initiative, highlighting Hannah’s selflessness and compassion. “Most kids at her age, if they decide to sell anything or make a lemonade stand, they want to take the money and go buy the hottest, newest toy. She’s always just had a really big heart, and always been giving, and has always adored her animals.”

Hannah’s efforts didn’t stop there. Determined to continue making a difference, she has expanded her charitable endeavors beyond artwork. “I actually have another business,” Hannah revealed with enthusiasm, “I did one yesterday and I’m doing another one for bracelets, and I’m also going to be donating that to the animal shelter.” Her commitment to supporting shelter animals underscores a maturity and empathy well beyond her years.

Looking ahead, Hannah dreams of becoming a veterinarian one day, a testament to her enduring passion for animal welfare. Her actions serve as a reminder that kindness knows no age limit and that even the smallest gestures can have a profound impact on the lives of those in need.
