In a horrifying discovery, a global animal abuse ring has been found to be sadistically torturing and killing baby long-tailed macaques on camera for paying clients, mostly based in the US and UK. This shocking revelation came after an in-depth year-long investigation by the BBC, bringing to light the brutal treatment of these innocent creatures at the hands of this Indonesian-based gang.

Known as the ‘The Torture King’, a key figure in the US allegedly responsible for distributing these sickening videos, revealed the extent of the sadism involved, with clients given a choice between hammers or pliers to be used in the torture process. He admitted the footage that followed was “the most grotesque thing I have ever seen”. This abhorrent activity originally started on YouTube, later shifting to private groups on the messaging platform, Telegram.
The investigation was brought to life through secretly filmed footage, with one of the culprits, M Ajis Rasjana, openly admitting to a reporter that he finds pleasure in hitting the monkeys against the wall, even saying it’s “so cool” when he witnesses the blood coming out of the poor creatures’ mouth.
Thankfully, swift action is being taken against the perpetrators. Police are hunting down the buyers, and a series of arrests have already been made globally, including three women in the UK and a man in Oregon, USA, with at least 20 people now under investigation.
The network had its roots deep within the digital world, with hundreds of individuals coming together in Telegram groups to concoct ideas for torture and commission them to be put into practice. They sought to create tailored videos showing the brutal treatment and even the murder of these defenseless animals.
The joint effort of international law enforcement agencies has managed to access the inner workings of this torture ring. The investigation is ongoing, but if convicted, the culprits could face up to seven years in jail.
Paul Wolpert, Special Agent leading the investigation at the US Department of Homeland Security, shared that anyone participating in distributing or purchasing these appalling videos should be prepared for legal repercussions. He warned, “You are not going to get away with it.”
In Indonesia, the police have arrested two suspects connected with the torture. M Ajis Rasjana received an eight-month sentence, the maximum available for animal torture, and another suspect, Asep Yadi Nurul Hikmah, has been sentenced to three years for animal torture and the sale of a protected species.
This disturbing revelation underscores the urgency for stronger international cooperation to combat animal cruelty and exploitation. As lovers of our planet and all its creatures, it’s our shared responsibility to fight for a more compassionate world.
